Since its inception on 14 November 1994, Eurostar has increased the geographical mobility and standard of living of many Europeans by providing a high-speed railway service connecting London to Paris and Brussels.

As one of the modern engineering wonders of Britain, the colossal 5.8bn project took over 11 years of hard graft with engineers putting in more than 100 million hours to remove 530 million cubic feet of earth from 37 miles of tunnels. This was followed by laying 310 miles of rail, 185 million miles of communication cables and planting 1.2 million trees and 20 miles of hedgerow.
